Yankees Start Second Half on Good Note

The Yankees had a good start to the second half of the season winning 7 of the last 10. The Yankees are still mourning the passing of long time PA Announcer Bob Shepard and George “The Boss” Steinbrenner. Although they will both be greatly missed baseball still has to be played and the Yankees will honor them in every game. The Yankees also lost another member of the Yankee family Ralph Houk also passed away so the Yankees will wear black bands on the sleeves of their jerseys for the remainder of the season.

Alex Rodriguez’s quest for home run number 600 did not happen this weekend against the Royals. He missed out in his last at bat due to an accidental plunking by Woods. It was a scary moment for Yankee fans though when Alex way on the ground for close to minute. When he got up he was removed from the game and immediately got an X-Ray which showed no broken bones or a fracture. A-Rod said to Joe Girardi that he has full strength in the hand and will play in tonight’s game. Alex has been on a hot streak since the break and hopefully once he hits number 600 it will continue.

Robinson Cano got his 1,000th hit as a Yankee yesterday! He join an exclusive club of home grown Yankees to reach this milestone, he joins is Captain Derek Jeter and former Yankee player and Coach Don Mattingly. Cano although start to cool down a bit before the break seems to be getting his swing back.

Derek Jeter, who was in a horrible slump when the first half ended, has started to get back in his groove. Jeter hit his first inside the park home run since his rookie year this week and for a 36 year old who some say is losing his speed proved them wrong. The Yankee captain who is in his last year of his contract is proving to everyone that he can continue to play every day.

Andy Pettitte who was put on the disabled list for a pulled groin says he’s ready to play. He played catch and felt no pain but, Girardi wants to wait and see how he feels after throwing off the mound. Pettitte who is one of the best starters this year for the Yankees is just eager to get back out there and help his team win. Sergio Mitre is taking his place in the rotation until Pettitte is able to come back.

Another Milestone was reached this weekend by a Yankee, Jorge Posada got his 1,000 RBI of his career. It seems this year alot of milestones are being reached. Gene Monahan better have is pen with him at all times.
